Job Responsibilities
- Supervise and participate in daily print operations, including the setup and operation of industrial printers and finishing equipment used for producing a wide range of commercial print products such as books, brochures, menus, marketing materials, business cards, product labels, flyers, packaging inserts, and signage.
- Schedule and coordinate print jobs based on client deadlines, staff capacity, and equipment availability, ensuring timely, efficient, and high-quality production.
- Review and approve printed samples and completed products to ensure they meet quality standards, layout accuracy, and specific client requirements.
- Communicate directly with business clients across various industries to gather project details, clarify print specifications, prepare estimates, and provide updates on production timelines and order status.
- Manage administrative tasks such as job tracking, invoicing, maintaining production logs, and organizing client records to ensure smooth and traceable operations.
- Oversee bookkeeping responsibilities including tracking job costs, recording business expenses, updating financial spreadsheets, and maintaining accurate records of receivables and payables related to client projects and supply purchases.
- Requisition and manage inventory of printing materials such as various grades of paper stock, specialty inks, laminates, binding supplies, and finishing tools to support continuous production flow.
- Train and guide staff on safe machine operation, company standards, and quality control procedures; regularly evaluate performance and encourage skill development.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues or job-specific challenges, assist with machine setups for complex tasks, and suggest process improvements to enhance productivity and product quality.
- Maintain clear and accurate daily and weekly reports on production status, material usage, and equipment upkeep.
- Support staffing decisions by participating in hiring, training, shift scheduling, and staff performance reviews in alignment with business needs.
- Ensure the production environment remains clean, organized, and compliant with workplace safety standards, fostering a productive and hazard-free workspace.
Job Requirements
- Completion of secondary school.
- Completion of a college program in graphic arts technology or a related field would be an asset but not mandatory.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a similar industry.
- Ability to troubleshoot machines and maintain consistent print quality.
- Basic administrative and bookkeeping skills for job tracking, invoicing, and production recordkeeping.
- Strong communication skills to manage client interactions and lead team members effectively.
- Well organized, detail oriented, and able to prioritize multiple print jobs and deadlines.
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures in a production environment.
