Job Title: StorySave Program Manager

Independent Contractor Position: $35.00 per hour; 20 hours per month / approximately 5 hours per week, flexible.

Location: Remote, requiring reliable, secure and strong internet service at the applicant’s location.

Duration: 7 month contract with strong possibility for annual renewal beginning in September. 

A probationary period of 3 months applies.

What is StorySave?

StorySave is a project of Storytellers of Canada-Conteurs du Canada (https://www.storytellers-conteurs.ca ) Canada’s national arts service organization for storytelling. The purpose of the project is to record the voices of tellers from the Canadian storytelling community who have a distinct repertoire and have made a significant contribution to the art form. These stories and an audio documentary about the teller, are then made available to listeners world-wide as part of a living legacy. At present we record a single album and several podcasts annually.

The StorySave Program Manager is responsible for production, marketing and promotion, distribution, budgeting, and fundraising for all StorySave programs and products. The manager reports to the SC-CC Board directly and on behalf of the StorySave Committee.

The StorySave Committee, which includes the Program Manager, sets the direction of the program. The Program Manager brings ideas, proposals, and recommendations to the committee for discussion. Decisions will be based on committee consensus. Opportunities to review the relationship between the Program Manager and the Committee will take place at least every 12 months.

Duties include:

Project Review

• In partnership with the StorySave Committee the contractor will review the current recording processes and develop strategies that will move the project forward using the most effective current technology. 

• Review will include but not be limited to, technical options, artistic content, costs, revenues, audience reach, distribution and general practicality.     

 

Production of Recordings 

In partnership with the StorySave teller, StorySave Committee and participating volunteers the manager will: 

  • Oversee nomination process for StorySave teller
  • Oversee necessary contracts
  • Develop timelines and work plans
  • Liaise with recording studios and recording manufacturer
  • Assist with liner notes
  • Oversee graphic design work
  • Manage all post production registrations and downloading.

 Financial Management

  • Create annual budget for approval and monitor its implementation
  • Assist, or write in full, grants and reports to granting agencies
  • Process and track donations in collaboration with SC-CC Financial Administrator
  • Promote and support all fundraising activities.

Podcast Production for StorySave Teller

  • Oversee the production and editing of the podcast, hiring freelancers if necessary
  • Develop script
  • Promoting podcast episodes.

General Administration

  • Manage StorySave content on SC-CC website
  • Ensure timely translation as needed through SC-CC’s translator
  • Maintain, store and update StorySave files and other information
  • Report to board and StorySave committee regularly
  • Writing newsletter articles about StorySave, as requested
  • If budget allows, attend the annual conference.

Distribution

  • Process and track sales in collaboration with Financial Administrator and volunteers
  • Coordinate orders and shipment with inventory volunteers
  • Seeking new avenues for sales/distribution. 

Promotion and Marketing 

  • Guide the development of a comprehensive marketing and promotion plan for SC-CC’s StorySave products
  • General promotion of all recordings and podcasts.

  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with SC-CC volunteers, SC-CC staff and outside contractors
  • Commitment to inclusivity and diversity practices
  • Demonstrated competence working in the non-profit sector
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven marketing skills  
  • Proven ability to self-direct and independently manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Highly effective administration, organization and management skills 
  • Confident decision-making skills
  • Grant writing experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of digital content creation with an emphasis on sound recording and podcasting
  • Ability to work creatively and flexibly with current technologies related to sound recording and podcasting, e.g.  Digital Downloads, Streaming Services like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube, Proprietary website-based services, Cloud-based storage and download services
  • Proficiency in oral and written English required
  • Proficiency in oral and /or written French is an asset.
